Achieving Combined ExcellenceWhat is an ACE ? Let's take a jet pilot as an example, he is in complete control of that jet. A jet pilot travels at very high speeds and breaks sound barriers. But many people don't fly their own jet; they are not an ACE, or pilots of their own lives. Many people get in the airplane of life and sit with the average, fly with the average, and like a herd of cattle are controlled by the effects of someone else. They follow along and hope that everything goes all right. If something happens, they blame it on another pilot. "It's not my fault I'm stuck in the middle of the ocean." I call this being average, or to fit with the analogy, PLANE. You have the choice to take things into your own hands and say, "I am going to fly this jet, I am going to control it and I am going to break barriers." You are not going to break any barriers the sitting in coach looking out the window. It is deciding that you are going to be in complete control of what it is that you do, how you do it, how you live. You're flying your own jet! In order for us to do this we have to make a very important decision to do so. You have to decide that it's your life or your jet, if you will, and it must fly. A decision has to be made. Being your best or being an ACE isn't easy. It takes commitment, self-discipline, patience, endurance and energy. It takes being above average. So the first decision you have to make is whether you're an ACE or average. You cannot do something without first making the decision to do so. You need to consciously make this decision on your own - simply reading this manual won't do it. Decide now what you are and write it down. Writing things down is the first step to turning a wish into reality. If you don't write things down, you are relying on what I call, "luck of the I-wish." The 3 BeliefsFirst is the belief that it must fly and not, it should fly or "well... after I have the wings painted and give the jet a name." It simply must fly, here and now. The second belief is, you must fly it. A lot of us have nice jets sitting around and we say, "hey, where is my pilotme a pilot?" We need to understand that we have to be our own pilot. The third belief is that you can fly. If you keep replying with the "I can't" attitude, you'll never get off the ground. You must have complete faith and self-confidence that you can accomplish what you are doing. This means you rely on yourself and not others for your actions and reactions. It means you get yourself motivated, in action and in the air. AttitudeThe third part is holding the thumb in a thumbs up position, this represents attitude. The kind of attitude you need to have is the attitude of achievement. I call this the Thumbs Up attitude. If you see a jet pilot getting ready to take off, he gives a thumbs up signal that he is ready to go. With a thumbs-up attitude, you're ready for take off. Are you excited to talk with people who tell you all their problems and how bad their lives are? Most likely not. So how can you expect others to be excited when you do it? Focus on how YOU might be able to get out of the situation , instead of on all the bad points of the situation. If I ask someone "what do you want?" They usually reply with "Well I don't want this, this and this..." What they fail to realize is that what you focus on is what you get. If your focus is on the pain of being held down by some outside force, that will become your reality. Ever get into the situation where you have no control? The thing is, if we have a thumbs-down attitude, we're stuck. For self-defense you need a thumbs up attitude if you are going to take control of a seemingly painful reality. What you believe, you perceive. Your reality is what your mind creates as your reality. What is real to you? If you say, "well, if I had that person of my dreams, I would be a happy person," or "if I had that big house on the beach I would be satisfied." You're right here right now. You are always going to be right here right now. Are you going to determine your happiness by what's parked in your driveway? All this determination and energy is being placed on plastic, material and paper. Your reality is really what you make of it. Wherever you are in your life is where you can decide to say, "I can and will" or "I wish, I wish, I wish." You have to be able to change your focus in order to get what you really want. Do you know what you really want? I know exactly what you want; you want to feel good. It's all in the mind.Do you believe this? It has to be all in the mind, where else is it? Is it on your palm? Is it on the end of your finger? Where is your life right now? Where are you, your soul and your being; where is it housed? Is it in your BMW? Where is it? It's all in the mind, that untouchable source that we call "me." If life throws you a few body blows, you have to react with a thumbs up attitude because life is going to do just that. At first you'll put your thumbs up and life will grab your silly little thumb, twist it all about and slam you back to the ground. You will need to have the strength to get up, smile and stick your thumb out to the world and keep sticking it out. Next time someone cuts you off on the freeway, give him or her a thumbs-up. If someone calls you an idiot, stick your thumbs up. Sure this is a bit backwards, but an attempt to anger others will only increase your dilemma. Acting out of pattern is an easy way to keep from losing control of our emotions. If increasing your pain is your goal, then by all means scream and make rude remarks at life and you will soon realize life will only reflect what you put out. Start today by making the decision to have a thumbs up attitude. Life is like a pool, we will have to swim in what we throw in it. I don't know about you, but I don't see any reason to pee in the pool. This may not be very tasteful, but then again, neither is drinking from a toilet.
